Golfing Queen

Jaycee's never been one for sports. It's not that she wouldn't be good, its just that she's really never had a desire to try any. This year however, her P.E. coach talked her into trying out for golf. She found that she was actually pretty good at it and had a few friends to help her in learning. With the early snow melt this year, they were able to practice outside longer and play in more tournaments.  Jaycee ended up playing in all but one tournament on the varsity team and has decided that golf may just be her thing.

My First 10k Run

So, I'm still not quite sure how I ended up standing on a start line at Mouqi Cave on Saturday morning at 7:00, freezing  to death. But nonetheless, there I was.
It all started the week before when Tia texted me and asked if I wanted to run with Michelle. I had to think for awhile as it pretty much scared me to death - running a great distance in public.
But Michelle was going to have to run alone if I didn't go with her and I was already there for Tia's wedding. So in my friend Amy's words, I put on my big girl panties, my running shoes, and registered.

It actually ended up being kind of fun. We made our six miles to the finish line in 1 hour & 26 minutes. Our family was there cheering us on and Cody and Chris ran the last couple hundred yards with us.
I don't think that I'm going to become a professional runner from this, but I think, if given the chance, and another good partner, I may try it again sometime. Thanks Shel for inspiring my first first 10k run.

Tia's Wedding

My sister, Tia, married Voi Barton in Orderville, Utah this past weekend. It was a small ceremony shared mostly with family and close friends.
Wyatt got to fly out from Kansas the day before so the boys- Chris, Wyatt, and Cody spent several quality hours together doing boy things-climbing things, playing video games, and fighting.

It isn't very often that we get together as siblings (minus Bret who couldn't make it,) so when we weren't herding kids, it was great to just sit and chat.
After the wedding, we spent some much needed relaxing time at the hotel pool.
It's too bad that we live so far apart that we can't get together like this more often. It was great to be there for Tia and to share in their day.
Congrats Voi and Tia!!

Brit Takes Spirit Week Seriously

Britnee told me last weekend that she had a plan for Spirit Week this year. She drew up everything she needed so that she wouldn't forget and left it propped up in the bathroom.
 Monday was twisted Day.
Tuesday was 80's day. She even pulled out the crimper and ratted her hair.
Wednesday was her band trip so she couldn't wear her PJ's but she made up for it on Thursday for school spirit day. Yes, she colored her hair blue.
I think it's great that Brit gets out and struts her stuff a little. I wish I could've been so bold when I was her age.

Our Annual Easter Scavenger Hunt

I have to admit that I haven't been as dedicated as I should be in keeping up our family tradition but my kids were not left wanting. Kelly came down for Easter and brought her wonderful scavenger hunt clues and prizes.
The weather was chilly but not bad, and the kids didn't seem to care s they ran around chasing clues.

We went back and forth from our house to grandma's house. In the wood pile and around the tractor. Poor Bentley and Peyton had a hard time keeping up with the big kids.

The highlight of the weekend I think was that the kids set up the trampoline. This year the snow melted and so we were able to put it up earlier than normal. Thanks Kelly for helping keep the Easter tradition going.

What Happened In Vegas Part 2

On Sunday Tia and Voi came to visit. We played games and Suz made some yummy cookies. On Monday we went to Circus Circus to play at the Adventuredome. Our favorite ride was a pirate ship that swings back and forth.

For lunch we went and got the kids Chinese food. Britnee wanted to learn how to use chopsticks with her noodles. Voi was so patient in showing her and she was thrilled when she finally figured it out.

We spent the afternoon at the Mirage watching the dolphins and the Secret Gardens.
On Tuesday Bart and Michelle brought the girls over. We went out to Blue Diamond and Bonnie Springs to play.
The weather was beautiful and we had so much fun at the little park in town. The kids played and played on the skate park there.

What Happened In Vegas Part 1

Spring Break finally came. Yeah! We have been so excited about our trip to Vegas. As the trip got closer, we made all the arrangements to go to California but when we saw the weather report we decided to stay in Vegas. It ended up being cold and rainy in California but pretty nice in Vegas.
So onto plan B. We ended up doing a couple of little things that turned out to be pretty fun. We played in the backyard with a hose and some balls the first night. We went to Suzett's brothers house to swim in the pool and have a bar-b-que the next night.

On Saturday we ventured onto the strip just far enough to go to Johnny Rockets for some yummy lunch at the mall. While we were there they had a fashion show where the floor rose up to make a run way. The kids all thought that was pretty cool. Cody tried to show us later how the models walked and we got a laugh over it.
Then we all headed over to the Mandalay Bay to the Shark's Reef Exhibit. We got to see lots of great aquamarine mammals and Brit and I even braved touching the backs of some sting rays.

Jaycee and Britnee got to play beauty parlor and get their hair done. It was Brit's first time. Anyway, tha'ts what we did instead of going to California. Not bad huh. Tune in to the next post for the rest of our adventure's in Vegas.
